Hunts are conducted using the spot and stalk method and are not baited. Black Bear are found at both the Loon Lake and Decker’s Pond sites and the opportunity does exist to spot one while hunting moose or caribou.

A combination of genetics and very low hunting pressure make the Newfoundland Black Bear bigger than any of its North American cousins. Frequently weighing over 500 lbs, their numbers are estimated at over 10,000 animals. It is only a matter of time before a Newfoundland Black Bear shatters the current North American records. These magnificent predators make for an interesting hunt for the knowledgeable and experienced hunter.
